Land office: Six months to do five minutes work
Ms D Ramachandran | Jun 18, 08 4:29pm

All the big drama about a change of government in Selangor (from BN to PKR) and the hope of bringing about a more efficient civil service is yet to be proven. The service and standards of government departments remain the same.

Last year, I fully settled my housing loan by paying the full outstanding amount to the bank. The bank asked me to get a lawyer to discharge the loan. The lawyer fulfilled his duty and discharged the loan in December 2007.

In January 2008, the lawyer presented to the Selangor Land Department my land title to be endorsed with the ‘Discharge of Charge’ to show that my property is free from any charges and encumbrances.

This is just a simple procedure, merely to endorse on the title that the property is free from encumbrances. Merely takes a few clicks of the computer to do this. All the more when nowadays when our title is merely just a piece of computer-printed paper

Today, exactly, six months later, I am still waiting for it to be done. In the light of many land and fraudulent cases, I am having sleepless nights too for fear that my property may be ‘sold off’ without me knowing it.

Also, my property, located in SS4D, Petaling Jaya, is worth around RM800,000. Without the title, how am I supposed to sell or mortgage my house to raise funds? Assuming I need the money badly for an emergency operation or to send my child overseas for further studies, I am at a detriment.

In addition to that, can one imagine how much I have lost in interest alone if I had sold or mortgaged my house six months ago to raise funds?

How can the Selangor Land Department take six whole months to do something that will take five minutes?

As the Selangor Land Department is in the same building as the menteri besar, I hope the current MB can help in this matter.
