Bring back RM500 and RM1,000 notes
Good Old Time | Jun 23, 08 4:23pm

There are many things that the Barisan Nasional has over done with policies which are long outdated..

To cite one example, when we go to banks to withdraw a few thousand dollars we have to carry a basket with us because the counter clerk will deliver bundles of fifty ringgit notes. A rather bulky stuff which is certainly going to attract snatch thieves who are keeping a close watch outside the bank premises.

Moreover, the bank cashiers will also have the tedious task of counting so many pieces of fifty ringgit notes and that is bound to take time, keeping the clients waiting unnecessarily and making the banking service look inefficient.

When I visited our neighbouring countries, I found that we can easily obtain Malaysian currency at their money changers. So what logic is there in printing the currency notes in small denominations to deter the currency from being sent out of the country?

Gone are the good old days when we had RM500 and RM1,000 ringgit notes which many of our neighbouring countries still use for their own denominations

Gone are the good old days when there were so many finance companies where we could do simple banking services speedily at practically no cost. This compared to the various various cut throat charges imposed by the present big banks which make huge profits at the expense of the poor ordinary citizens.

Gone are the good old days when our savings at financial institutions could earn attractive interest rates such as in New Zealand and Australia compared to the low rates now that are nearly the same as the inflation rate.

So many good things of the past have disappeared with the unpopular policies of BN. Will they really listen to the voice of the rakyat this time? Let us wait and see.
