Incompatibility of opinions and principles, that is how can I conclude Hadi's statement. It is very confusing what Hadi had said earlier in his press statement that Anwar's sodomy allegation is a private issue and has no bearing with politics and the Permatang Pauh by-election.
Then Hadi says:
i. We don't have this practice in Islam;
ii. refer his case to the Syariah Courts;
iii. Saiful did not understand the contents of the Quran when he performed the act yesterday;
iv. it has no bearing on PAS' pledge to support Anwar's campaign.
Understanding the four points raised by Hadi, these questions popped in my mind:
a. If the swearing is not the practised in Islam why did it once happen once during the era of Tunku Abdul Rahman?
b. Is Hadi telling us that the Mufti of Perlis who initially suggested the act was wrong?
c. Is the cleric of Masjid Wilayah, who agreed to assist and advise Saiful, ignorant and Hadi the only one who knows all?
I hope Hadi will project some principles and segregate politics from religion. Allow me, a simple layman, to share a simple example, Gambling is haram in Islam to my understanding.
Whatever reason claimed by the Muslim gambler, his act and his earnings are still haram. Despite knowing gambling is haram, the government still collects tax from legitimate gambling outlets and to my understanding, these taxes will be paid to the Income Tax Department which them remits it to the treasury.
The treasury will in turn make remuneration to the government servants including these elected political representatives.
We all are aware of the tax collection process. Is it enough just to claim that we don't care how the government gets the money for our salaries when we are all made aware of the process? So Hadi, if he really cares about Muslims, should clear this issue first so that no Muslim is suspicious of the salary he or she receives. This rather than politicising the sodomy case.
H says Saiful does not know Quran and he is not qualified. This may be so but the suggestion for Saiful’s action was not from him but from the Mufti of Perlis - is he not qualified? If he is not, then request him to relinquish his post and stop wasting the rakyat's money.
Since the sodomy case is a private issue between Anwar and Saiful, all politician are urged to keep away from interfering and making the Muslims confused. I urge Hadi, who also has his own influence, to reflect a firmer stand rather than another flip-flop.
