SPECIAL REPORT: Top cop vs top cop
Nov 1, 07 12:42pm

Is it a case of top cop vs top cop?

It all began with the allegations in March that Deputy Internal Security Minister Johari Baharum had received RM5.5 million in bribes to release three gangsters held under the Emergency Ordinance, which allows detention without trial.

This was followed by the allegations that police chief Musa Hassan had himself pocketed RM2 million in return for the freedom of three underworld kingpins.

Both were subsequently cleared by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) but the war did not end there.

Musa had claimed that he was being framed by his own men.

Among them apparently is Ramli Yusuff, the head of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department - who was once his superior.

Subsequently, Ramli was investigated by ACA over allegations that he had undeclared assets to the tune of RM27 million.

On Oct 30, he called for a press conference to deny the allegation and also made damning allegations against the ACA for compromising the identities of police informants.

The following are Malaysiakini reports on the tit-for-tat accusations within the top brass of the police force:
